In 2009, by the grace of God, UPG implemented a church planting strategy in a war torn, remote area of South Sudan amongst the Ngok Dinka. An indigenous pastor was equipped to disciple the people in a small group format using Discover the Bible studies. It quickly grew from 15 people to approximately 5,000 and has now spread to all 14 sub-tribes. We continue to help through monthly support of 46 pastors. We also continue to supply Bibles, teaching materials and Proclaimer Audio Bibles in their language.
Though around 45% of the Pokot people are reached with the Gospel, the remainder of the remote mountain people still haven’t heard the Gospel. The harsh remote hill country usually makes travel treacherous. In 2013 UPG International partnered with Rick Strickland from Pokot Now Missions to reach a village named Chemorangit. It was a 16 hour walk over 1000-foot hills, through lion country in 100+ degree heat! It was worth the effort because the entire village heard the message of Jesus Christ and were baptized. UPG is able to support Rick and two pastors for two years.
Nepal has 274 people groups with only 10 people groups classified as reached. The majority of the unreached are Hindus (84%) but there are Buddhists and some Muslims. God is moving however! In 2007 Tim and his son were invited to Nepalgunj by Rick Zachery, head of Gospel Asia Missions Organization, to attend a leadership conference. The conference was held at Gospel Assembly, pastored by K. B. Basel, a converted Hindu. The pastor and Rick were planning to reach a people group called Tharu. They were training 20 young men to start churches amongst them because to date there had never been one. UPG International is supporting 8 pastors for 2 years. The results of these young, indigenous pastors is nothing less than miraculous. In 2012 Tim revisited Nepal for another conference and instead of 150 attending, there were 10,000 new Hindu converts! God is truly moving in Nepal!
